The Preparation of the Technical and Vocational Education for Sustainable Development

Abstract

The Cuban education system is grounded in social and international demands, which serve as starting points for implementing theoretical and practical studies within educational institutions. Based on this premise, this article outlines a path forward to address existing shortcomings in Technical and Professional Education in Villa Clara regarding the quality of the educational process, adopting a transformative, humanistic, and locally-oriented perspective. The objective is to develop a system of methodological workshops designed to equip teachers with specialized knowledge, enhance their performance through the use of dynamic techniques, and contribute to sustainable and local development. The research was grounded in the dialectical-materialist approach and employed methods at the theoretical, empirical, and statistical-mathematical levels. The study sample consisted of teachers, administrators, and methodologists involved in Technical and Professional Education in Villa Clara province. Diagnostic results revealed a limited grasp of the relevant dimensions, an absence of an ethical-pedagogical perspective in technical subject curricula, and a lack of connection to sustainability within classroom instruction and other activities. Based on these findings, a workshop system was developed, progressing from conceptual foundations to the creation of institutional action plans; this initiative addressed the contradictions identified between societal demands and the actual capabilities of technical-professional educators. The system was submitted for expert review, and the resulting feedback confirmed the relevance and creativity of the topics as drivers of social development and transformation.
