Psychometric competencies and gender attitudes in psychology students: Evaluation of the AngoSAP Project

Abstract

The AngoSAP project aims to strengthen psychological support services in Angolan universities, with a fundamental pillar being the technical and ethical training of future psychologists in gender equity issues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the level of practical competence in handling psychometric instruments and to characterize attitudes toward gender equality among psychology students from four Angolan institutions. Through a mixed-methods descriptive and pedagogical intervention design during the "Voces y Horizontes" conference, 38 students (UÓR, ISPNM, ISP Porto Amboim, and INSUTEC) participated by cross-applying the Gender Equality Attitude Scale (GEAS). The results identified a critical difficulty in processing reverse-scored items (17 cases of incorrectly applied scales, 44.7%). Regarding attitudes, a transitional view predominated (65.7%), with a minimal presence of fully egalitarian stances. It is concluded that there is an urgent need to restructure practical teaching through supervised internships to correct regional asymmetries in Angola.
