Looking in the mirror. Representation of childhoods in Zunzún magazine

Abstract

This article addresses the concept of childhood as a starting point for analyzing the representation of children’s rights in the magazine Zunzún, an aspect to be incorporated into the educational work carried out at the primary school’s level.  It considers the foundations offered by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), which establishes educational guidelines based on the right to education, participation, play, children’s songs, and culture in general essential elements that foster children development. Furthermore, it prioritizes the theories of Vygotsky’s and his follower regarding the role of mediators, lived experiences, and education. The article investigates how these rights are addressed and represented in the magazine, as well as its educational use, employed methods such as documentary analysis, interviews, observation, surveys, and a methodological triangulation technique. The proposed educational alternative contributes to the research project: The training Early Childhood Education professionals for the stimulation the neurodevelopment of the students in educational institutions at the Primary level.
