Some considerations about the conception of the geography discipline for the development of cognitive performance tests

Abstract

The III Improvement of the National Education System has led to changes in the conception of the Geography discipline in relation to the general objectives, guiding ideas and basic cores of content as fundamental premises for a developing conception. Cognitive performance tests have been in correspondence with these adjustments made. With a view to knowing the current situation, a diagnosis was made that allowed determining that there are difficulties in geographic learning at all educational levels. The results of the cognitive performance tests showed that the grades with the greatest difficulties were 7th and 10th grade and the most affected basic core was geographic education for sustainable development, as well as the skills of characterizing, arguing, and locating, which reveals the need to continue conducting studies and analyzes of learning behavior through cognitive tests that respond to the different levels of assimilation within the framework of the generalization of the experiment, to monitor the state of geographic learning and systematize the preparation of methodologists and managers of the territories in the ways of developing verification instruments to measure learning outcomes, which facilitate the monitoring of the diagnosis of students and prepare teachers in the Didactics of Geography to develop more productive evaluation exercises.
