Abstract

This article examines the effects of social media use on academic procrastination, self- esteem, in adolescents and young adults. Through a narrative review of 25 studies, the positive and negative impacts of these platforms are analyzed. The results indicate that excessive use of social media is related to the postponement of academic tasks, a decrease in self-esteem, and an increase in FOMO, the phenomenon known as Fear of Missing Out, problematic use of the networks, which affects overall psychological well-being. However, benefits are also identified, such as the development of socialization skills. This study underlines the importance of promoting educational and psychological strategies that encourage a balanced use of digital platforms, involving parents, educators, and psychologists to guide adolescents towards healthier practices.
