Community work, a way for environmental education in Junior High School

Abstract

The improvement of the Cuban educational system incorporates environmental education for sustainable development in the study programs, with the aim of promoting a culture of protection, conservation and rational use of the environment in the community. In Junior High education, each educational institution must design an institutional curriculum that considers the particularities of the community it serves. This article reflects on community work as a strategy for environmental education in junior high school. The research used theoretical and empirical methods of educational research to characterize the current state of this topic. The importance of strengthening community work in conjunction with the school environment in the system of educational activities to promote environmental education and sustainable development is highlighted.
