At the Autonomous University of the State of Guerrero, poor performance in mathematics has been identified as an indicator of a low level of understanding of mathematical knowledge in the field of Economic Sciences. This descriptive exploratory study with a cross-sectional design examines the least used academic learning strategies by students and their influence on mathematics failure. The sample used is non-probabilistic, consisting of failed students from the second to fourth semesters of Economic Sciences. Data were collected using a Sociodemographic Questionnaire and Learning Strategies Questionnaires. Statistical analysis, from a quantitative perspective, confirmed that the studied sociodemographic factors are related to failure. Additionally, it was identified that the least used strategies by undergraduate students in Economic Sciences are: Time Organization and Management, Analysis and Synthesis, Attention and Memorization, and Information Searching and Recording (Note-taking). This study provides a detailed insight into the least employed academic learning strategies by students of Economic Sciences and their impact on poor performance in mathematics. These findings can contribute to improving educational practices and developing specific interventions to address learning difficulties in this field.
