Reading comprehension in school children at primary level

Abstract

The educational systems face new challenges to offer comprehensive care to schoolchildren from primary education, including motivating them and awakening interest in reading and comprehension. The need to contribute to this end became the starting point of the research, which aims to reflect on current problems regarding reading comprehension in fourth grade primary school students. The article presents the diagnosis made to schoolchildren in the fourth grade at the Juan Carlos Rodríguez elementary school. Quantitative methods and techniques were used to collect and assess the information presented. The investigation showed that there are deficiencies in the inferential and critical processes.
