Abstract

With the aim of adapting to global changes and considering national and international trends, as well as the requirements established in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, a redesign of a Spanish teaching model for non-Spanish-speaking students in medical specialties is proposed. The objective of this proposal is to develop a relevant and suitable model that meets the needs of society and students, responds to current trends, and complies with international standards. This study analyzed the positive aspects and limitations of the current model, as well as the actual educational foundations in the existing program. A literature review on the topic was conducted to determine the aspects that should be included in the redesigned program. Based on the consulted literature, it was concluded that the foundations for designing the new program should include philosophical, sociological, psychological, pedagogical, didactic, and linguistic aspects. In the second stage of the research, the decision was made to change the name of the program's third stage, called "Preparatoria" (postgraduate), to a more relevant and appropriate name: "Preparatory Course in Spanish as a Foreign Language for Medical Specialties."
